St Paul's College reign supreme at teams event over the weekend

Saturday, 2 April 2022, The Namibia Chess Federation hosted its annual open junior chess championships 2022. This event is the prelude for the close where the top 8 Namibians of each age group will battle it out for top honors later this year.

Hong Qihao (Didi)
Our students had a hard time finding their groove and we only managed to win 2 medals this time around. The medals (Silver) were won by Hong Qihao ( Didi)  a grade 2 pupil at St Paul's College where we provide professional chess lessons. Another successful medal winner was Shali Itembu who scored 3rd place (Bronze) with 5/7. Six of our students, qualified for the Namibia National Junior Closed Chess Championships in Swakopmund later in April 2022. They are; Tanatswanashe, Shishani, Ngujama, Tapiwanashe, Shali and Stefan.

That did not dampen our resolve as the St Paul's Parents made sure that two teams were registered for the team event and Coach Max lead the champions to the podium.

Junior, Tanatswanashe, Fidel, Kyllikky
The St Paul's Lower Primary team consists of:

Board 1: Fidel Boois

Board 2:Junior Kanelombe

Board 3: Kyllikky Sihlahla

Board 4: Tanatswanashe Katsvara

These young ones dominated the event by winning their section with 12/12 match points. It was amazing to see their energy and drive. It's sometimes unreal how quickly they can adapt and deliver. They were all rewarded with a gold medal each and a floating trophy for the team.

The St Paul's College Upper Primary Team, did not disappoint either as they too delivered the goods in silverware. They faced stiffer competition, but enjoyed their matches and were determined to get gold too. but 2 match points stood between them and the eventual winners whom they defeated. They played 10/14 match points. A valiant attempt to get and stay on the podium. They all got silver medals for their efforts.

Hoandi, Tangeni,Genius, Tapiwanashe

The Upper Primary Team consists of:

Board 1: Tapiwanashe Katsvara

Board 2: Tangeni Kanelombe

Board 3: Genius Sihlahla

Board 4: Hoandi Boois

In the High School Section, Stefan Becker joined the CIDS team who came third and were rewarded with bronze medals.

These were the best results for the weekend. A big thank you to the Parents and a hearty congratulations to all the students for their valiant battles on the chessboard. You are all champions.

We will continue to maximize your potential!
